A method for performing numerical micromagnetic calculations on systems with arbitrary geometry has been developed. The geometrical flexibility is a result of basing the approach on three-dimensional finite element modeling with tetrahedral elements. A boundary element component is also added to the formulation to treat the boundary condition at infinity and to facilitate computing interactions between spatially independent magnetic objects. This paper will focus on the mathematical formulation and algorithmical implementation of the method and will include a discussion of a solver which has been tuned specifically for this problem. The resulting program is fast enough to compute solutions to engineering problems of practical interest in a few hours on a workstation.
