The excited-state nuclear Zeeman effect and quadratic-electronic Zeeman effect were studied in Pr3+ using laser-induced hole burning. Hole burning in an external magnetic field gave values for the excited-state enhanced nuclearg tensor of gxβ/h = 2.2, gyβ/h = 1.9, and gzβ/h = 3.6 kHz/G. By applying the field after hole burning, quadzatic-electronic Zeeman coefficients as small as 0.1 Hz/G2 were measured. The hyperfine coupling constant in the excited 1D2 level was found to be AJ = 600 MHz. © 1981 Optical Society of America.
