FeW and FeMo films, each at two compositions of 75 25 and 50 50, have been grown on (100) Si using (100) Au/Pd/Cu seed layers. A (100) oriented body-centered cubic (bcc) structure is obtained for both FeW and FeMo films containing 75% Fe. Those with 50% Fe show no ordered structure. Magnetic measurements are consistent with the structural results, with ferromagnetic characteristics seen only for the FeW and FeMo films containing 75% Fe. The results are compared with other Fe alloys, including the (100) FeV and FeCr films, where a bcc structure and ferromagnetic characteristics are seen for films containing 75 and 50% Fe, with a well-ordered structure also seen for those with 25% Fe. © 1991.
