Bio

Dr. Alexander (Sasha) Zadorojniy is a Research Scientist at IBM Research with over 15 years of experience developing efficient algorithms for real-world optimization and decision-making problems. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Tel Aviv University and B.Sc./M.Sc. degrees from the Technion.

His research spans reinforcement learning, Markov decision processes (MDPs), and mathematical optimization. His work on risk-aware MDPs (EMRDPs) appeared in ICAPS 2025, with additional publications in IJCAI 2023 and Mathematics of Operations Research.

Sasha has successfully deployed algorithms in real-world applications, including wastewater treatment optimization. He is a Mehrez Prize recipient, finalist for Wagner, Nicholson, IAAA, and GYSS awards, and a two-time IBM Master Inventor.

Prior to IBM, he spent a decade at Intel leading high-performance processor design. Currently, he focuses on scalable optimization for quantum circuit mapping and synthesis in next-generation computing systems.
