Bio

Shinnosuke Tanaka is a Research Software Engineer at IBM Research Europe in Daresbury, UK, where he works on the end-to-end development of large language model (LLM) systems. His recent work includes continual pre-training, post-training and alignment methods such as DPO and GRPO, and evaluation workflows for reasoning-focused LLMs.

He also designs and implements agentic workflows, primarily using LangGraph, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems covering document ingestion, OCR selection, workflow design, and deployment. More recently, his work has included multi-agent system design for production-oriented AI applications.

Before joining IBM, Shinnosuke spent approximately five years in Japan working on enterprise system development as an IT consultant and application developer, including client-facing requirements discussions and delivery coordination, as well as the operation of large-scale production systems.

He received an MSc in Artificial Intelligence (Pass with Distinction) from Royal Holloway, University of London. He also has a background in applied physics, with an MSc from Keio University and a BSc from Tokyo University of Science.
